Theophilus London – I Want You (Video)

7 Jun

Brand new visuals from Mr. London directed by Va$htie.

Scarface – “Dopeman Music” (feat. B. James and Monk Kaza)

26 Apr

Guess who’s back? The first single and title track off ‘Face’s upcoming Dopeman Music project. The Geto Boy enlists the help of fellow Houstonians B. James and Monk Kaza on this ambling, pensive banger, the first track he’s released since “retiring” after 2008’s Emeritus. Rap retirements are rarely permanent (see: Carter, Shawn), so it’s not a huge surprise that he couldn’t stay away from the game. Definitely looking forward to the mixtape.

Curren$y – “Breakfast”

26 Apr

Curren$y’s visuals for “Breakfast.” This is from a while back, but it’s worth another look. Spitta destroys Mos Def’s smooth Brazilian jazz loop in the gentlest way possible. A lot of people get turned off by his lack of depth (weed, clothes, fucking, weed, more weed..), but the man’s flow is just so nimble. Pilot Talk dropping… whenever he feels like it, I guess. It was supposed to be out in March, but no dice. Now if only we could get that Ski Beatz tape he’s supposed to be on…

Skyzoo – My Interpretation

24 Apr

Official new video from Skyzoo’s latest single ‘My Interpretation.’ This song and video is just greatness. Skyzoo had simply one of the most slept on albums of 2009 with ‘The Salvation.’

Theo Martins: You Can’t Do That On Television

23 Apr

Theo Martins is winning. With two back to back projects, ‘Channel Surfin’ and now ‘You Can’t Do That On Television,’ no one else can match the quality that Theo is providing. Theo is from Providence, RI. But he currently spends his time between Providence and New York City. You can find Theo’s other great works ‘The Birth,’ here and ‘Channel Surfin’ here. Like the man himself said, “it only gets better from this point on.”

Dilla Day

20 Apr

I was over at Stussy DC, on Saturday, February 13, for a dope event honoring the late great Hip Hop producer and MC James Yancey, better known as J. Dilla. The event featured music by J. Dilla and free PBR. A limited edition collaborative Stussy x Stones Throw Records t-shirt was also released at the event. You can contact Stussy DC for availability.

Thanks to Stussy DC for hosting and to everyone else who came out. Be on the lookout for more videos spotlighting dope events at local DC area venues. R.I.P J. Dilla
